Addressing the logistics
In the interviews, everybody mentioned logistical issues. For the purpose of this assignment I am choosing to focus on the design of the installations themselves, as opposed to their location and amenities. I would however like to address them briefly here, as well as elements of them in my presentation later this semester because they are important. As much as I never really considered them, you can tell from my family’s responses that they were a big consideration for them in making sure that the experience went well. Mandy Crowford’s response from a care provider’s point of view also emphasises this and I think that logistics are an important part of ensuring that this work is available to as wide an audience as possible. Below is a list of questions that I would consider when choosing a venue and deciding on an exact layout.
Toilets
-
Are there enough?
-
Are there disabled facilities?
-
Are they available throughout the venue?
-
Are they well maintained?
-
Are there gender neutral and gendered facilities available?
Food
-
Are there places to sit and eat food?
-
Does the venue allow you to bring your own food?
-
If not are there places to eat nearby?
-
If food is available, is it affordable?
-
Are there childrens options?
-
Do they have a good amount of options for people with dietary requirements?
Disability Concerns
-
Is the venue easily accessible for individuals with physical disabilities?
-
Is there a sensory space or a room that can be used as a sensory space for individuals with ASD if they are experiencing a sensory overload?
-
Can a wheelchair easily get around each installation?
Travel
-
Is there adequate parking?
-
How much does parking cost?
-
Does it have good public transport links?
Emergency
-
Can every installation be evacuated easily if there is an emergency?
-
Can paramedics easily get to someone in each installation?
Miscellaneous
-
Is it affordable?
