How?

The big question is: how am I going to design this art gallery? My plan is to use the main topic areas that were covered in my art classes as criteria for 4 installations, each with their own topic and accompanying painting. These 4 topics are:

  • Light and Form - How an artist manipulates colour and shapes to create images.

  • DIY - Taking an existing piece of work and using it to create your own, using the artist’s style.

  • Emotional Response - How does the art piece make you feel.

  • Historical Context - What is the history of the piece and the circumstances of the artist when they were creating it.

This isn’t necessarily how I would look to structure a gallery if it was to become a realized piece, but within the context of a theoretical design I feel it more clearly demonstrates how installation can be used to understand each of the topics. It allows me to focus on each topic individually.

Van Gogh Alive

An example of a similar type of concept is Van Gogh Alive. Van Gogh Alive is an installation based around the work of Van Gogh. Through audio and visuals they immerse their audience in his world. The installation was originally set in a cave, with the walls projection mapped. the tour instead has a series of flats projection mapped, along with music fitting for the environment.
