A particular area of difficulty was art. I’ve always liked the idea of art, but struggled with the two dimensional aspect of it. Combine that with powerpoints and being asked to draw an apple for the millionth time and it quickly became a subject I loathed. At the time my concept of art was drawing, painting or pastel work, all of which seemed flat and boring. I wanted to explore them, get amongst them, but I couldn’t.
Drama on the other hand was amazing. I wasn’t a fan of acting (personal interaction was complicated enough, without having to do that whilst pretending to be someone else) but the scenographic elements fascinated me. All the theories they had spoken about in art to do with colour, shape and movement could be realised in a three dimensional environment that could be explored, examined but most importantly, experienced. I had caught the theatre bug, and I was hooked.
