Primary School

Meet younger Jake. A very happy, inquisitive and talkative kid, I always wanted to be a part of whatever was going on. I also had (and still have) Aspergers. Before we go any further, I want to stress that in my eyes:

Having Aspergers is NOT a bad thing.

In fact, growing up I often considered it a sort of superpower. Sure, it presented me with challenges (anxiety is not a fun thing, no matter how positive your outlook) but it also gave me what felt like a unique look on the world. In my head ideas constantly materialised and built around me, a constantly evolving world inside my head. We could be talking about pirates, and next thing you know I’m off on an adventure to find buried treasure, constructing elaborate swords from boxes and generally absorbing information in a very hands on and sensory way.
