Why do I want to research this?

I've always had a complicated relationship with the 2D art world, a personal battle. I like the look of some art pieces, but struggle to explore them on a more emotional, personal level. I've also struggled on a technical level, looking at there form, colour, style and history. It's not that I can't do it, or that I don't want to do it, I just struggle to engage with it when it's simply presented to me. I want to deconstruct it, walk amongst it and experiment with it. Something you can't really do somewhere that looks like this:
