What's already out there?
After deciding to base the project around an immersive experience, I knew my next logical step was to research what was already out there. It was at this point that I found myself feeling very much like the man in the background, staring at this vast expanse and thinking...
There's a heck of a lot of this!
I was both excited and terrified. The term "Immersive Experience" covers such a wide range of work, each with something unique to offer. How do I even begin to represent that in one project? How do I pick which ones make it and which wont?
The simple answer is that I can't. So after spending a good chunk of time loosing myself in the world of immersive installation, I decided that (for the purposes of this submission at least) I would focus primarily on pieces that either I had attended or I knew someone who had attended. This way I could hone in on the audience experience from a personal perspective.
With that in mind, here are some installations that helped shape the way I think about immersive work. They are but a drop in the vast ocean that is immersive installations, but they are the drops closest to me. I have tried where possible to make the research PowerPoints have an interactive element to them. This is both to help me get into the habit of thinking about other ways of presenting and to hopefully give a more enjoyable viewing experience.
